5 ways to use an audio when learning a language

Audio to practice

  1. repetition: Listen to a sentence or word and repeat what you hear to practice correct pronunciation.
  2. listening: Listening to different accents, topics, speaking styles, and speech speed can help to recognize more and more words and understand speech better. Make sure you expose yourself to a variety of accents and styles.
  3. writing down what you hear: Choose a video that has subtitles or an audio that has a script. Switch off subtitles, start playing the audio, and write down exactly what you hear word by word. Replay the audio as many times as needed. Turn back on the subtitles and see if you were correct. It is a very effective exercise to improve listening skills.
  4. summarizing: Listen to the audio and summarize what was said. It helps to improve your speaking skills, your memory in the target language and helps you practice thinking in the target language without translating.
  5. memorizing: Memorizing small sections ( a few sentences) of audio and repeating it helps you to think in the target language without translating, just like the exercise mentioned above.

Have fun 🙂
